Synopsis
A narrative feature film inspired by the events known as the Beltway sniper attacks.
In the fall of 2002, John Williams and Lee Malvo went on a killing spree throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, leaving in their trail ten people dead and three critically injured. During three long weeks, the killers managed to escape the police dragnet and terrorize millions.
Blue Caprice is the story of the macabre and horrific events of that October and their genesis from the prospective of their twisted perpetrators: John and Lee.
Residents were afraid to let their kids go to school. Gas stations were hidden behind foot to head tarps. People felt vulnerable just waiting at a red light. At the time of their arrest, the police discovered that Lee, was a minor. He and John had a father-son relationship and referred to each other as Son and Dad. They were not blood relatives; the two accomplices had met for the first time only two years prior to the events, in Antigua.
Blue Caprice will document the mechanisms leading to the embrace of physical violence and codependency. The film will be a portrait of two killers pieced together from clues gleaned along their deadly journey; from the moment they first met, to their capture while asleep in a blue Caprice.
